Hi
My last Cobra with the LS7 BB Chev engine which was dry sumped ran Valvoline Racing 50w
oil and as far as I am concerned it wasn't suitable for my application even on a cold day it went from 70psi down to 35psi, so then I tried Valvoline synracing 15w 40 and not that impressed either!
Then I thought well I have always used Castrol RS 10W 60 in my previous cars and hey presto 70psi down to 60psi even with the
oil temp up to 26OF when I left my
oil cooller covered over. Castrol is it for me but I reckon that Mobil 1 would be hard to beat, as i have heard very good reports on it. My tests with oils are basically how an oil reacts to temperature in one or two cars, so I am not qualified in this field.
Regarding oil filters my last two cars had diagnostic filters like the Oberg with it washable gauzes, but I would say any Ford Motorsport filters would be okay in fact most filters would do the job unless you have very high oil pressure. Regarding running vehicles in especially V8 engines use a good quality running in oil or if your engine has high compression use 20/50 weight oil, but I don't think its that critical I have used Mobil 15/40 to run engines in, but I would recommend to do about 3000+ miles, if its a road engine, race engines can be run in much sooner.
