Like Don said, there is about a 1/2" - 5/8" hole the cable goes through, and the plastic cable end butts against. To keep it in place, a C-clip holds it from the rear.

You might want to hold the middle of the cable in place with a cable clamp to keep it away from the headers.

The stock Mustang bellhousing ('84 - '88), Ford Parts, has a little metal box that covers the clutch fork. Keeps water and trash out. Don't know how it would fit the Lakewood, of if Lakewood makes something to fit. But if you plan on doing a lot of street driving, you should cover this hole.
