I know I've read the time in various places. How it was recorded I have not the slightest. I seem to remember, however, the old car magizine articles such as Car & Driver etc.. have also referred to it with none challenging it. It nevertheless is part of the "legend".
Cal Metal also indicated that the 427 was capable of such a time especially with Miles driving. I tend to agree.

...In town the Rangers replaced the 47th Armored infantry battalion, 8th Division. Three Ranger lieutenants showed up at the 47th's CP. "They asked for the enemy positions and the road to take... They stopped and said, "Lets go men.' . We heard the tommy guns click and without a word, the Rangers moved out. Our morale went up in a hurry."
