I would love an original but will never be able to afford one either financially or emotionally. I first began thinking seriously about buying a Cobra when I heard of the Shelby reissue cars and I was determined to buy one. At that time, I was not aware that there was a replica industry. As I began to get serious and research the issue I learned of the replicas, weighed the pros and cons factoring in my finances, personality, etc. and I concluded that I would be happier with a high quality replica.
While I had always wanted a Cobra, I didn’t want it just to have but to use. I wanted to feel comfortable driving it to the store and work occasionally. Taking it to the track or leaving it unattended at a restaurant. I realized that I would be uncomfortable doing most of those things with a 100K plus reissue car and all of them with an original. I would worry about the car rather than use and enjoy it. It would become a responsibility not a source of recreation. So while I am among the most rabid worshipers of the originals, I am also a perfect replica owner!
Cheers, Pete C
