Some of you are aware that my oldest son Brandon is currently serving in the Navy aboard the fast attack submarine USS San Juan SSN 751, somewhere near Turkey in the Armenian Sea. Here is a copy of the last e-mail I received from Brandon, on January 24, 2003:
Hello to everyone.
This is most likely going to be my final email before I return to Groton. We are going to be on a very long special Ops mission, and we won't be done until right before we pull into home. I really miss the States, and all my friends and family, but this deployment has definetely been a life experience. I have been to Spain, Portugal, Italy, Greece, and Turkey. I have experienced the many differences from America and other countries, and I have seen how much, and how little, effect America has on others. I have seen signs in Greece denouncing Americans and NATO, I have seen a woman begin crying in her store in thanks for what we do, in Turkey. I am right here on the front lines, and I am proud to have been a part of what we are doing. I have become more patriotic.
Please keep sending me email. I can still recieve, we just cannot transmit. I look forward to checking my email everyday.
with love, respect and honor,
Electronics Technician Third Class Brandon C. Worley
USS San Juan SSN 751
