Just wanted to let you guys know about process for new law in illinois for getting your cobra titled, lisc. and registered in 03'. First thing you need to do is contact a NSRA inspector and set up a appt. to have your vehicle inspected. Contact me by e-mail and I will give you a # to call. The inspector came over to my house within' a week of my call. They do a thorough inspection and will want to see under car so be prepaired. The NSRA at time of inspection will assign the year the car most closely resembles or the info from the manufacturer of your vehicle will be placed on your title. My SPF was titled as a 65'. After inspection has been passed go to DMV and fill out tax form, appl. for title and appl. for reg./plates . I took all my info. to DMV in WOODSTOCK IL> and got my plates and reg. on the spot. The new law provides unique plates, reconizes strret rods/custom vehicles(cobras inc.) are driven rarely, meticulously maintained vehicles that should not be held to the same equipment standards as a modern pass. vehicle. Remember, antique plates limit your driving to shows and repairs and emisions. Custom plates will allow for a ocasional driving also. You can also get a ticket for no bumpers if your car is titled as a newer car. A custom vehicle is 1949 and newer modified vehicle at least 25 yrs. old. For more info on laws I can send you copies I have if wanted. To qualify for a custom plate you must first send in a request for such a plate. No cost to you untill plates are ready to be issued. After 820 more requests are recieved an application will be mailed to you. You will then send in a copy of your inspection sheet and your application. The cost of inspections are (0) I personally, joined nsra and contributed a small amount to help the guys out who are trying to get new laws passed to help out sreet-rods and custom vehicles(cobras). If you have any further questions e-mail me at
