Cal, that's interesting data. I guess if you could have found one sitting unsold in a Midwest showroom in 1968 you could probably have gotten a good deal. My brother has told me a story to that effect, about an unsold 427 that he saw for a long time at a showroom on the East Coast.

With the growing interest in muscle cars late in the decade, which were typically roomier, cheaper, offered in wild new colors and attached to creative marketing campaigns, it seems like the Cobra was probably perceived by a lot of potential buyers as an overpriced, cramped little car in a sea of exciting American muscle--
