Wow...Slithers post brought back some memories.

Back when I was just a widdo kid, my best friend's neighbor was an executive at Galpin Ford. He was allowed to drive the Shelby Mustang demos home regularly, and I remember one particular day when he had a 1968 or 69 GT 500 convertible - - as I recall, Grabber Orange and WHITE interior! He offered to take my buddy and me for a ride (we lived near LAX) to the dealership to take the car back in (it had apparently been sold), and drive something else home.

So, I hopped in the back seat, and, top down, we drove to Galpin. Walked through those big glass doors and behold - a Wimbledon White street car, slightly used, a purchase price of about $5900.00, and a big red bow on the hood. As we ogled the car, the neighbor shook his head and lamented that he had to devote this prime floor space to a car that he knew would be taking a bath on... Wanted more GT's but hard to get!!!!

Realistically, back in those days, Hemi GTX's, Goats and Camaro SS 396's were common, the 427 Corvette had just been introduced, and all could be had for a fraction of a 427 Cobra, why WOULD you buy one??!!

Great days. Actually these are better days, 'cause I ain't just ogling one, I'm driving one!!!

Your's in nostalgia...
