I took a closer look and the bevel in both supports fits well at the bottom of the windshield (as shown in the photo), but refuses to lock in from the middle to the top. The only thing I can see to change the relationship of the bevel to the windshield frame is to open up some of the holes in the supports slightly. Maybe then it would lock in. I'm going to consider this more before I get the drill out, though. I've twisted and tapped with a rubber mallet, but no go.

I'll let you know if my "fix" works.
