I thought I'd toss in my two cents on toggle switches. If you're looking for high reliability, consider either a racing supplier like Pegasus or a supplier of aircraft parts. I suppose most people set up their switches so up is on and down is off. My car is set up for racing so all switches are up when it's time to race. For example, up turns the fuel pump and Accusump on and the headlights and electric fan off. That means I can glance at the switches just before I take the track and, if they are all up, I'm ready to race.
