AS far as the starter shimming issue, some scattershields have the hole in the motor plate a bit on the small side,it needs carefull grinding to let the starter sit where it should. Doing this is a last try thing, after you verified that it is not a groud issue, bad starter, too much ignition timing, or any other issue. If you want to try it, don't shim with washers, get the starter shim from NAPA, it spaces the whole unit out about .100".
