I made my own sidepipes. I bought a cheap pair of 4" glass packs, cut them open and removed the core. Then I made my own cores by taking a piece of 3-1/2" pipe and milling slots in it that are 3/16" wide x 2" long. The slots run length-wise, all the way around and the full length of the core. I wrapped the core with stainless steel wool, slid the outer shell over it and rewelded. The more slots you mill in the core the quieter the pipe will be.
Performance is the same as 3-1/2" straight pipes. They are loud but the high pitch ringing is eliminated.
I made these because my carbs are all calibrated for open headers.
The standard straight core glass pack uses up to a 3" louvered core (in the 4" OD models) and I can't run them with out recalibrating my carb.
