I bought my car used in Los Gatos and have no registration issues. The engine in my car is 40 years old, however and this may be why. I have a sticker under the hood from the state showing the age of the engine and the year the car was built. Used is definitely cheaper but you can not find out how the car was assembled, ie engine components unless you buy it from the original owner. I have so far been happy with the car, and would not consider buying a new one and taking the $25-35K depreciation component.
