This has nothing to do with my obvious ties or anything, just something I've noticed over the years. I think the general idea is much more usefully phrased as:
"You very rarely get what you don't pay for"
Henceforth, that is to be known as "Steve's Elaboration" Credit to my paternal grandfather for the general concept.
