That was a fun "blast from the past," but missing from the whole "Cobra Tax" concept was the royalty portion that Carroll was planning to forward on to Dearborn, MI.
Henry Ford Jr. was on a mission to beat (punish?) Enzo Ferrari and funded the deal far beyond any rational explanation. (Access to Ford's parts bins, "special" production runs and engineering brain trust were probably every bit as valuable as the cash.) No doubt that Shelby was the right guy in the right place at the right time; but as the saying goes "no bucks, no Buck Rodgers!" It's too bad the various lawsuits induced the "institutional alzheimers" into the discussion. They were a pretty good team.
