Smile Rumble at the Supermarket

Last Saturday...

Last Saturday I was on my way home early. (Actually, I was working...had to test that new suspension you see.)

Anyway, I was driving past the supermaket by my house when I saw one of my friends trucks parked in the parking lot. Soooooo, I was early home anyway...

I gave him a call on his cell phone. I was still in the car with it running by his truck--on the far end of the parking lot.

"Larry"

"WHAT!!!...WHO IS THIS?" (Larry is an eye surgeon and was probably wondering who had leaked his cell phone number.)

"LARRY! IT'S ME", I giggled as I knew he would never be able to understand me over the rumble.

"WHO IS THIS?!!!"

"LARRY, ARE YOU IN DAY'S (The name of the supermarket).

"WHO IS THIS...???!!! (Probably wanting to avoid a call.)

"LARRY!, DON'T YOU KNOW WHO THIS IS?"

"NO!"

"LISTEN!"

At which I gunned it. I'm sure the front windows rattled.

I didn't, of course, have to say anything else. Next thing I know, he leaves his groceries at the check out stand and RUNS out the front door. (Larry knows I need a "navigator" when "testing" new parts).

He opens the door and sits down. After a long pause..."David, see the smile? It's coming...yep here it is."

So, off to the canyon. About 1/2 way up it starts to rain...WHO CARES?

We keep heading up the canyon. Sternly, I look at him and declare, "We are getting wet; we should drive faster so the rain goes over us!" Strategy worked. People were laughing and pointing at us, but who cared? (Lots of thumbs up too--I might add.)

We turn around and head back to the store. We talk for a long time about life, cars, surgery (remember, I was on my way to medical school one day--a long time ago.) He tells me how much he wishes he could have my job and I leave him standing at his truck. (I almost had to surgically remove his tongue off my fender before I could leave.)

The rain cleaned off my "bare naked lady" so I'm glad I didn't go home because of a little rain. The sun came out, and I finally headed home. Of course, when I got home...there was a line of neighborhood kids waiting their turn. The sun was out...so, I decided I had to do some more "testing."
