I try to stay out of these but I kind of want to point a fact. Elenor sold at Barrett for what $180K....seems to me that since it was bought by the owner anyway its a great way of building hipe and its a small cost (figure all they lost was fee to BJ) for all the marketing they got.
Items are worth what people will pay for them...cars will always be speculative. My ERA is 17 years old....still worth what it cost to build it...to me thats enough...I am not loosing money and I get to enjoy the hell out of the car.
Would I buy a 4000 if I had the money...hell no...would I buy a 2000 or 3000 if I had the money HELL YES!!!!!
Yes they are Shelby's but according to the registries so are the new GT500E's (now figure that one)...the dodges of the 80's were shelby's too.
I love what Shelby did in the 60's....I love the cars...they have souls...they were built for the pure race capability and for the love of creating something great.....
Most of Today's cars don't have souls.....
Take things into perspective....EBay is a good measure of how the Series 1's are selling (like crap by the way...people can't sell them for $80K) what makes it any different for a 4000? The 2000 sold recently for a really high price if I remember on Ebay.....why pay BJ their cut if I can pay a lot less on Ebay.
Everyone loves their cars...there's no need to throw spit wads because mine will be worth more than yours in 20 years...who the hell cares.....I know alot of people that can have any shelby they want but they get a replica because they don't worry about driving it and they don't want to spend their money....
If the decision you made was important to you then great...enjoy....but don't try and justify what you payed or what others think its worth by pointing to 1 car and saying "See I told you so"....some people have way more money than sense!
