That car got most of its mileage behind a tow truck. Spend all my DX gas station part time job $$$ on that car. Motor, trans, just for starters. Engine was rebuilt.......yeah right......after burning
oil like an industrial furnace for a year, we finally pulled it down.
The pistons had been knurlized--a concept that may escape the younger crowd on this forum-- The taper on the cylinder walls resembled the shape of a diamond. Some of the ring lands on the piston had the ring broken in ten different areas (per land!!) To top it off, they had used chrome rings which wouldn't conform to any taper. A veritable bust...............
Transmission had a bad cluster. Fortunately for 'ole Cal, he had a friend who was a mechanical genius of sorts and taught me everything I know (that isn't saying much) and we were able to do it ALL for under $200.00 (motor and trans). Thanks God for that.
So, Dan, regarding the car being a chick magnet, it had the portential; unfortunaely, my head was either under the hood or looking the Chevy parts guy in the eye, doliing out dollar after dollar to keep it going. Great idea, just a bad car................
