Default Removing Dash

I am sending the body off for paint soon, and need to remove the dash. What is the best way to remove the stock steering column. If possible, I would like to just remove the two large sleeves that are holding the dash in, and leave the inner shaft alone. I removed the C clip that holds the beering in place, thinking that if I got the bearing out, I could then slide the first peice off, and as I remember, there are only 3 small screws holding the other part on. Yes, I have removed the horn/turn signal portion, and have loosened the two nuts that draw the outer ring in. It still feels as if I am trying to pull that inner shaft out.

Any ideas?

Tom
