The two that I am familiar with are a cable entering from the side of one e-brake caliper arm and running to the other arm. When the handle is pulled the arms are pulled together. The method I used was to connect a piece of coated wire cable to each of the arms, then loop them thru a bracket with rollers and allow the loop to be pulled by a short linkage running from the brake handle.
