Generally speaking, the purpose of a hoop is to keep a broken drive shaft from catching in sod, road pothole, crack or curb and pogo sticking you to the moon. If the shaft breaks and parts of it or the yoke act as shrapnel a hoop does little good and a protective steel pan or shield would be your best hope, like a scatter shield. Keep in mind as you nestle your leg alongside your tranny that they have been known to grenade too.
