engine choices are compromises. I think the ideal engine for for these cars is the stroked Windsor. I have one, more power than i can use, ( i can only use my power momentarily in street driving), nimble handling, and up to 23 mpg on the highway. Plenty loud, easy to tinker with, relatively inexpensive.
Let me put it this way: Bob Olthoff, who has more race miles in authentic Cobras than probably just about any living person, asked me:
"We won the World Championship with 375 hp, why do you think you need more than that? " So i settled for a 460 hp Windsor, and am very happy with it.
It is the sum of the overall engine characteristics that are important, not just this or that aspect.
Me, I'm a Windsor man, wouldn't change a thing. I always did like small, nimble cars.
