I agree that "scratch built" is a great term to throw back when asked if it is a "kit". But hey, every car is a kit. The all start out as individual parts, delivered to a central assembly area, and finally they are meticulously (we hope) put together piece by piece until we drive them off the line.
Just so you know, Ford Motor Company uses the term kit when referring to prototype builds at it's Prototype Build Facility (NMPDC) in Dearborn. Every part of the car is placed in a box and shipped to NMPDC as a KIT. Ford's words, not mine. By the way, I'm working on the 2005 Mustang at NMPDC and you people have a treat in store for you come this time next year when they reach Job #1 and they go on sale. They are really nice...
