Default Carbs...

Hey Mike,
when you say carb(s), I'm assuming you are running dual carbs...

- are they Holley 450s? New, Used?
- do you know what the jet sizes are?
- are you running a fuel log?
- what type or size air cleaners are on there?
- how much vacuum does it have at idle speed?

I'm no pro but I've been tuning and helping my friend to tune our carbs in increments and there is a noticeable difference in performance between the stock carb settings and what we've arrived at so far. My 830 HP carb was too rich, and his dual 450s were too lean. We've changed jets, air cleaners on both, and discharge nozzles on the HP carbs. I'm going to drop down in PowerValves just a tad. The Holley carb tuning book really helped out. Good Luck, it's fun and the sound even changes a bit once you get it spot on.
