What diamiter and brand of master cylinder are you using? My car had a Tilton 7/8" master cyl.It was so marginal .I either had free travel and incomplete release or complete release and no free travel.I went up to a 15/16" dia.master cyl.Now I can get both but pedel is a little stiffer. You always give up something to get something.Travel for leverage.The no free travel will and did take out the throwout bearing which will and did take out the forks in the pressure plate. It is not going to work without both free travel and full release.
