There are several reasons for using the fuel log. One is if you are using a mechanical fuel pump, the log (reservoir) will soften the impulses from the pump. Another is that an aluminum log that is large enough will cool the fuel if it is placed correctly and give the carb a cooler supply of fuel. Yet another is that with a log you are putting a steady reservoir of fuel right net to the carb and for lack of a better term “inlarging” the carb bowl. This however is open to debate.
