COLD START FIXED
Lost a day working, but at least I fixed the cold start problem.
For anybody's information it was the inhibitor starter switch located on the side of the transmission.
I think the old switch was too close to the exhaust and so packed in due to the heat.
Bandaged the exhaust (not ideal as advised by local exhaust fixit man as significantly reduces the life of the exhaust - what the hell, a little more noise will keep the neighbours on their toes) to keep the eat down.
After replacing the switch, it started on the second turn - so it was for a spin into the setting sun.
Thanks for everyone's advice - certainly a helpful bunch (even those victorians).
