Wink Info Needed...on F.E Block

Gentlemen; I was just dissassembling a Solid lifter F.E Motor over the weekend and the Block numbers are: Front - 352 , Rear-352 ,Lifter Valley- 47 and no other numbers identifiable. Pistons said 390 on the sides. My question is: Under the middle of the three frost plugs on either side of the block there is a "thin" wire ( Mabey .075" thick or so ) that runs from the cylinder head deck ( On the inside water passage area) to the Cylinder base ( Inside the water jacket). What`s this for?? ,Is it a factory aligning device that helped the factory when casting the block??. And what if a person happenned to break it off with a screw-driver .I appreciate your reply....Mike.....Oh Yea!, I`m looking for a Glenwood F.E Timing Cover for my Marine motor..Thanks
