We had a fun drive on Saturday, 20 Sep, starting from 0730 and ending at 2230 hrs. Jerry Rowley (Unique 427) started in Foley AL, Jack & Cindy Flanders (Classic Roadster) from Baker FL, Kim & June Crockett (Aurora Slab Side) from Crestview FL, Tom Powell (Everette Morrison) from DeFuniak Springs FL, Ruble Moore (Hunter) from Pace FL and Jerry Cowing (Unique 427) from Niceville FL did some cruising on the back roads around Pensacola FL in the morning and through Navarre onto Pensacola Beach in the afternoon and then to a car show at Burger King in the evening.
The weather was great - a little chilly in the morning, but warmed up nicely and no rain although it did rain Love Bugs the first couple of hours of the morning trip. We had to stop at a gas station to clean our windshields, etc. along the morning route. During the afternoon and evening cruises, we didn't experience any bug suicides.
Part of the group met for breakfast in the Milton FL Waffle House and then proceeded to Burger King on 9-mile Road in Pensacola. After a brief time at Burger King, we headed out on the back roads of the FL Panhandle. The country-side was cool, refreshing and a nice drive on curvy roads which complimented nicely the curvy chicks we had with us. After a few hours of driving, we stopped for lunch at Chubby's BBQ and had a swell time teasing the ladies - as men should always do.
After lunch, we went to a speed shop in Pensacola, visited with the owner who is a dragster from back in the 60s and saw his original Ford Fairlane Thunderbolt which was sporting the original 427 SO with high rise and holley carb. After the speed shop, Jack/Cindy and Kim/June went home and the rest of the group headed for Pensacola Beach. This was a very nice cruise along the beach and through the Nature Preserve. We started the beach drive in Navarre and ending up in Pensacola at the Burger King again for the Car Show. The DSCC club was honored at the Car Show for bringing a bunch of Cobras although the Corvette Club won a trophy for bringing the most cars (maybe 20 Corvettes showed & 4 Cobras). After a few hours at the car show, we went to Ruby Tuesday's for dinner. We had a lot of fans at Ruby Tuesday's who came to our table to ask questions about the Cobras.
After dinner, the group broke up and headed home at about 2145.
Here's a picture of the gang when we stopped for lunch at Chubby's BBQ.
