Yes they did humiliate them.
I saw my first Cobra at the local dragstrip. It was a red one from a Ford dealer in Louisville.
It was on street tires and every time the guy would shift you could hear the tires chirp.
There were five Corvettes there and the Cobra whipped them all with ease. It also beat a 421 Pontiac Catalina that had the three duece setup and was finally beaten by a 427 Thunderbolt Fairlane but just barely.
It was that night that I knew that someday I would have one.
