I can't stand it any longer...

IT DEPENDS ON HOW DAMN TALL THE FREEKING ELEMENT IS!!!!!! THAT'S WHAT STEVE WAS GETTING AT!!!!!!

If you want to know what it is with the stock, nearly worthless steel cage/foam element is...then ask that. You're telling us what the freeking diameter the K&N was, but not the freeking height, and now you're asking how tall the S&H is!!!!! Folks put different size elements in the S&H housing, depending on the room they have and what they run. You can run short elements for two carbs, all the up to 5 inches and more if you got the freeking room. The top and bottom plates are thin metal...

From the flange to the top of the dome on the lid, it's about 2 3/8-2 1/2 inches, depending on how tight you turn the nut...that's with the stock cage/foam element. You can make that taller or shorter...DEPENDING ON THE ELEMENT (Fram, K&N, etc.) which you need to fit to the diameter (about 8 1/2 inches or so).

Ask the right freeking question and folks here will jump all over each other to give the right answer(s), but don't complain until you do.
