MISFIT41 AND SHAPS,
YOU CAN EASILY GET WAY MORE POWER THAN YOU WILL EVER NEED FOR THE STREET OUT OF THE CENTER OILER AND CJ CRANK COMBO. I HAVE BUILT MANY OF THEM, ALL OF THEM IN THE 550 TO 625 HP RANGE. YOU CAN GET 550 HP OUT OF A VERY STREETABLE 454 FE. THE SCAT CRANKS REQUIRE AFTERMARKET RODS AND CUSTOM BUILT PISTONS BUT YOU CAN RUN FACTORY RODS (390 RODS WITH ARP BOLTS ARE SUPRISINGLY STRONG) AND SHELF PISTONS FROM JE OR ARIAS. ARIAS IS THE CHEAPEST PISTON I HAVE FOUND FOR THE 427 / CJ CRANK COMBO. THEY STOCK THEM IN 4.25" (.017" OVER) AND .030" OVER AND .047" OVER. THE RINGS ARE CHEAPER IF YOU GO WITH .017" OVER OR .047" OVER. ACTUALLY, WITH THE 4.25" CRANK, YOUR
OIL RINGS ARE IN THE PIN BORE AND YOU LOOSE
OIL CONTROL - NOT GOOD FOR THE STREET. YOU WILL HAVE ALOT LESS MONEY IN ONE THAT USES A CJ CRANK, AND UNLESS YOU ARE BUILDING A COMPETITION RACE MOTOR YOU REALLY WON'T BE ABLE TO TELL THE DIFFERENCE. JUST FOR REFERENCE, MOST OF MINE HAVE 1U CRANKS AND LEMANS RODS, ARIAS OR JE PISTONS, AND MAKE MID 500 HP AND WE HAVE NO PROBLEMS WITH THEM UP TO 6500 RPM.
