It's all in the memories the road brings back. Back in the Mid 60's, i got my first car, a Triumph TR-4, in Lincoln. From time to time, i would drive back, straight thru, on the back roads (could not afford the 10 bucks worth of I-80 toll roads, so went highway 30 cross country to DC, about 1200 or so miles. Never stopped, just straight thru, in that little reliable TR.
When i would leave Lincoln, it was always after college class, in the evening, and when i got to Omaha, i went to the right around the city, heading east, with the big adventure about to start.
So when i am out driving, it is dusk, and the road is all mine, i tend to think back so many years to that turn to the right at Omaha, the sun setting over my shoulder.
Drove that little TR 44,000 miles in the 11 months i owned it, got a B the next year. Always have been partial to small, nimble cars.
I have a little 200+ mile run tomorrow, leaving well before dawn again, heading down towards GA. Chris and I just changed the
Oil and Filter in his Boxster out in the garage. How much satisfation to work on sports cars with a son. I have raised him to be a Car Guy, too.
