CSX Factoid...Comp/SC 1x4
SC History,
You have to remember that the SC car were in reality competition cars that did not sell and sat around well after the FIA turndown on the 51 homologated in April of 65. While the planned installation of 427 mag 1x4 MR intakes on alum heads of 12.4:1 compression were on all cars months into the production Charlie Beidler sold Shelby's sales team at LAX to market them as semi-competition cars. No paper work really was ever planned to support this lineage. To the shop and accounting guys at LAX this change over was not "harum scarum" as most state, customer additions requested on the cars caused the "oddities" at the FORD/Shelby dealerships. The SC cars left on transporters w/ 1x4's.... NOT A CAR SHIPPED TO A SHELBY DEALER WENT w/ 2X4 setups! There is supporting paper work to prove just that.
All the "Ford street racer" buyers wanted what the flyers were showing 2x4's on the Street Roadsters, so the wanted them. I watched while a newly arrived 427 Comp/Street car was stripped at a dealership of the turkey pan, aluminum heads, intake, and 4bbl, just to have them install a "NASCAR" (bunch o bunk" setup installed off a 64 Galaxie, iron heads 11.5:1, 2x4's [Holley 780's] on a aluminum intake intake. Never understood why, the "doctor" buyer wanted them two fours, and he would pay $350 what the dealership charged him. The set up came of a buddys beautiful 500 he used for church n dragracing on Sundays. And it was a used setup at that.
