Hi Bob:
A company called Klein Tools makes a real nice set of sharp Long Nose Pliers which, if used with care, can fit nicely into the two detents of the typical bezel nut.

I once found a set of socket tools made expressly for the removal and tightening of those dashboard bezel nuts. The set was sold at an industrial supply house and was very expensive in my opinion. So I passed. Just could not buy the one socket I wanted, had to buy the entire set.

Another option is to make you own tool out of hard sheet aluminum whos thickness is aprox the same as the detents on the bezel nut.
