Before you get into the Calif. morase of legal gray areas, make sure if you just want to register it as the 1975 that is ok. Originally the 30 year limit was supposed to move up each two years I think it was, but I believe they stopped that and the cut off date the last I could find ot was 1974. If that is so and you register it as a 1975 then you may have an emission nightmare. SB-1578 was for cars registered out of state as other type cars, but I think you can with money, patience, and finding a DMV person who will work with you also change the registration to say a 1965 Cobra replica, assuming you can get one of the 500 numbers. If you do this, use the body style for the year and not the motor. That is your choice and not the DMVs.

If the car is already registered in Calif as a 1975, then it should be no different than buying any other used car. But you may still have to have the emission test done.
