Hydrogen certainly is going to be difficult to use in the automotive world, but it will happen. Storage and re-fueling are the biggest issues.

No doubt the engine Shelby is working with was actually modified by a University research team who are attempting to set the world land speed record for hydrogen power.

There using the 427 alloy Shelby V8 in a Shelby Cobra. Quite interesting how they developed the injection process etc. I was surprised to learn that hydrogen is FAR more powerful than gasoline, pound for pound. The same engine using hydrogen instead of gasoline will make about 17% more horse power!
