Well it certainly has a lot of benefits when compared to methane or propane in terms of power. Unfortunately, it is very costly to produce.

There were some great articles in Car & Driver over the past year on hydrogen, fuel cells, etc. The media picked up the story "Cars powered by Soap"... thinking that borax is what powered the vehicles. C&D debunked it pretty well; borax was the storage medium (and a pretty nasty one too).

My bet is still on gasoline - at least for the next 10-15 years.
