Go to a junk yard and buy the cheapest non-running (or running) motor they will sell you. Don't pay more than $100.

Disassemble it and learn a lot!

I'm assuming you mean not just theory but put your hands on stuff. This is a cheap way to do that and you will definitely learn a lot without spending much cash.
