Sort of going off on a tangent here, if you can help, I'd appreciate it.

I have a Ford FE, whatever your opinion of it, that's what I have, can't change it.

I understand the LS1 uses an oil pump that drives off of the front snout. And is very thin.

First, is this true? Second, it's a common factory part?

I was considering adapting something like that for the FE, but wasn't too sure if it would be possible.

If that is the way the LS1 oil pump works, could you provide me
with a part number that I could take to the local parts counter to order to play around with. I'm assuming it's not too expensive, but again, not sure.

The reason I even think about this is that there was a version of the FE which did use a crank driven oil pump mounted under the front cover, though Ford's version was gear driven and much larger.
