Default air breather

I'm building a antique and collectable Ac cobra with a 460 just wondering how you clerance is on your hood. I have the oval cobra style air breather the hood won't clear with it on. I'm running a weiland Stealth intake or at least I thought I was going to. What intake and air breather combo is everyone running with a stock hood?

What carb are you trying to run? And is it stacked up on a spacer? How much clearance are you trying to get?

Then try this flat base for your air cleaner. As low as you can go.
Just see Nick (Mickmate).

I'm sure if you talk to him nicely, he might sell you the base plate alone but can't promise.

Hey, what do I know??

I've tried just about everything since my dyno test showed a 1.875" x 8" S&H air cleaner costs about 35-40 HP. The AFCO 14" with a 2" drop base didn't work. Since I recently changed my intake to a BT dual plane and gained almost an inch of headroom, I used a flat 9" base with a 2.75" high K&N air cleaner. I'm getting a top made that has 1/2" rise and looks good (spun aluminum). It fits up inside my scoop with a little modification, and it's the most I can do.

I was afraid I might have to change intakes.

I have a torker II intake with a holley 800 and the cobra oval air cleaner. Fits but just barely. Of course I don't have a choke on the carb, per previous owner he milled it off.

I would have thought it was under the breather lid, but I know I looked at another car that had a different intake and the carb had the choke and the hood is what held the top of the breather on. if you put the bolt and nut on it, it would hit the hood. I know all cars a little different and so are engine setups... just thought I would mention it.

Check my previous post again about the low profile air cleaner setup from Acton. It comes with a Quik-Latch on top that is flush with the top of the air cleaner, so no interference from the typical wing nut setup. Push the button, the lid comes off.

I have a 3/8" phenolic spacer and Holley heat shield. My K&N air filter is I think a 1 3/4". If you look close, I had to grind off part of the back of the air cleaner since it hit the inside of the hood. I also put grade 8 bolts through my motor mounts ( left them slightly loose with silicone on them to keep them from moving around) in case they ever cut loose.

That Acton setup is pretty sweet... I may just have to look into that.

There are plenty of respected folks here that are using it or have used it and I haven't heard a complaint yet.

I'm def. Gonna prob order the action air breather although I was wanting to run the cobra I can put it on at a car show or what ever even the hood is up. If it don't clear after that I possible could get some lift from the body or change intakes which I really hate to do. I don't think my motor can go any lower. Thanks for everyone's input.

The Stealth manifold is a little taller than most. Mine has the Edlelbrock Perf RPM,no spacer with Holley. Also changed the hood and added a little taller scoop to get a 3 x 14 K & N inch with Extreme top for racing around. Car shows and cruises pop on the Stellings.

The Torker II isn't all bad if you decide to go that way. I had mine port matched to the heads and now use an oval Extreme top air cleaner. I did have to cut down the base plate a little to get enough clearance, but able to fit a 2" element under the hood Good luck!
