Paid $22,000 for my first house lol. Of course, it wasn't all aluminum...

Ford Racing announced a 572 CID Super Interceptor months ago, but it's still not showing up anywhere as available. Perhaps a better solution anyway would be to have an experienced engine builder build one to meet your requirements.

Something I ALWAYS recommend to Cobra owners is "drive what you are experienced with". I don't know your level, but 300hp in these things moves them quite nicely. Everything above is to the drivers discretion... Many times I have seen experienced drivers with 500+ hp engines selling their cars saying 'what was I thinking' because they are just unstreetable. Be safe and good luck with the power plant you go with.

Mike.

Hey Mike,
To each it's own, what ever makes someone happy, but 300HP is worthless to me.
500 HP/TQ is the least, for my happyness and properly set up, .....is easly streetable.

But, this is coming from a guy that races dirt winged sprint cars, weighs1250 lbs with 800HP, 1/2 mile oval, 150 mph on the straights, turn left at 125 mph with other cars. :D

The only reson I'd sell a 500HP motor, is that it's not enough,......... power. :p

CraftEngines 05-16-2017 07:47 PM

We would be happy to help. We offer a 514, 572, and 600ci options. The 514ci would use a production 460 block, the 572-600ci would use the Motorsport A-460. These range from 550-750hp. Feel free to give us a call.

Thanks

That's about what I have in my whole car.

FUNFER2 05-17-2017 03:41 PM

Maricopa,....when we raced sprint cars, we were sponsored a great motor. The cost of a new motor was $35,000 to $50,000. We were lucky in having such wonderful sponsors, but always took great care of the engine and never hurt it in 9 years. In the first 5 years, we had a pooch motor. lol

Anyway, I can't afford a big dog motor in my Cobra.

Thank you Lance. I'll check out your site.

Lance, I really kind of hate the idea of not having a FE in my Cobra, either Ponds block and heads, or those from BBM, but I want high TQ mainly, but for the high numbers of performance and for the price, your 514/572 is a great option !

Looking at your dyno sheet, not only is the TQ & HP numbers at even the lower rpm's, but the fast even pulls, are up to 6100 rpm ! Amazing curves !

The only surprise with the 524, was the lower compression of 10:1 ?

With both cid's, what type of cam and numbers are they ?

I'm used to adjusting lash on the sprint car's solid roller and the flat tappet on my 428FE, so either is fine. (there's nothing short of a solid roller cam 360/410 sprint car engine sound, .......except for a top fuel motor) lol.......

How do you feel about solid rollers on the street, even with the isky lifters, valve train and oiling mods ?

Will they hold up on the street under so much idling ?
Kevin

PS- (are you sure the dyno sheets graph of the curve,.......isn't really the space shuttle's) ? Hum.....

Out of curiousity, which of these Craft 460 based blocked engines, which would you choose and why ?

Personally would go with the 466 in mainly because 600 hp 550lb ft in these short wheel bases cars can be a handful especially trying to navigate aggressive turns. My car with this combination at first really got the blood flowing till I figured it out.

No matter the combination it's all about finding what works together for the way you choose to drive the car. Tires, suspension setup, gearing, brakes are just of few of the required steps one needs to address with big hp and tq.

466 ?

Big power is BIG fun. ;)

Just foud this deal.

SOLD...:(

Ford 545 cid crate motor by CHP (Coast High Performance/Probe Industries; StreetFighter setup); this 460 (stroked & bored to 545") was rebuilt by Coast High Performance to pump out 600+ hp/600 ft.lbs torque in an easy-to-drive street motor that accelerates a Cobra like a bat out of hell. And it does it all on pump gas. Balanced, assembled and sitting in the crate, ready for delivery to you, and ready for installation; crank F460 4.500, steel H-beam rods, flattop pistons; Edelbrock Performer Competition aluminum heads; solid lifter camshaft, billet rocker arms, stud girdle; Edelbrock Performer aluminum intake manifold, Ford Motorsport valve covers, high-performance water pump (driver’s side inlet), Ford oil pan. I need the space it's occupying so I'll let it go to the first person who pays $4,000.

Gee that's a good buy.
I wish I had another car for a motor like this. :)

Careful Kev, the bargain hunting somewhat led you to where you are now. If the deal appears to be unbelievable then it usually is... There's always a shiester waiting to take your money. Just saying...

FUNFER2 05-22-2017 05:23 PM

I do agree buddy, but just because something is a good buy, great or a buy of a lifetime, doesn't mean it's from a shyster, we just need to be very careful,.......

I've heard several horror stories here and other forums about "reputable" company's dealings. I thought I lost money, but one guy lost over 25 grand, with a well known company. eek.

With my first 428FE, I traveled and brought my own tools to check it out before buying, then a friend drove 250 miles to picked it up and brought it back to his shop to dig even further. With the second, I did not travel as it was too long of a trip for me, next time,......I wiil !

"Cobra Country's" website used to have quite of few engines for sale, but haven't seen much as of late.

scootter 05-22-2017 09:31 PM

I would go with the 514 http://www.craftperformanceengines.com/Item/street_514
I currently have a 514 in my Superformance that puts out over 600hp.
Scott
