Default Look for a 429 4-bolt I'm a new guy

Thanks to all you who answer all these postings. I've learned allot over the last few months about cars and engines. I've been looking for a used 429 4-bolt from the 70's to rebuild. Sure are hard to find. Any Ideas where to look? I would like to put it in a Cobra replica.

Do I need power steering with the 429/460 if I go with the cast iron engine?

Also what about the 460 aluminum block from Ford Racing? Anyone have one? I'd like to put the new SCJ head from Ford on what ever engine I buy. Anything special I should know?

Nick

I think it's going to snow... I'll just keep the engine on the coffee table in the living room till spring....

Default 4 Bolt 429 and New SCJ Heads

4 bolt 429's are hard to find. You can scour the junkyards, but your best bet is e bay. They go for about $900 or so. I picked one up off e bay for $450, but that was a few years ago. Casting # should be D0VE-A. My recommendation - if you can swing it, get the iron block from Ford that you can bore and stroke to 600+ cubic inches. It will set you back $2200 or so.

SCJ heads are easier to come by, of course. Had a pair of these, too. Only potential problem is pistons - when I was building my engine about 9 months ago, no one made pistons with correct valve reliefs (the valves have been moved from their original positions) and had to purchase a tool to cut the reliefs myself. If I had to do it all over again, I would buy the heads complete instead of bare and would get custom pistons instead of cutting the ones I had.

BTW - if anyone needs to cut their pistons for SCJ valve reliefs, I'll sell my cutter cheap.

Keep your eye on eBay. They are regularly available for about $1000. I built the same combination you are thinking about. In my SPF I do not need power steering. As long as the car has a bit of forward momentum it is fine. All the pictures from my build are in my gallery. Good luck in the hunt.

Hey Nick,
I have a D1VE 4 bolt short block with 58000 miles I was gonna use that I am looking to sell cheap. I also have a bunch of spare 460 parts I'm looking to get rid of also. Not sure what the frieght would cost though. E-mail me or call me at (808)-479-8508.

BigScott,
How much for the Cutter? I have a 460 in my SPF and am looking into the SCJ heads myself.

Ciao,
Shawn

Default Got rack?

I have a PS rack and pump.

What will you give me for them.

Pump is 1969 to 1972 ford mustang ( I think )

The rack is SVT mustang II ( I think )

It is 8 degrees outside, if you want to know more ( this mean going out and measuring ), please be real about purchasing.

I know Nick and have spoken with him about his Cobra.

He ordered a Midstates and now officially has the "disease"!

He's given up on the 429 and is having a 351 B&S'd by the same guy that built my engine.

The fun begins
