Thats BEAUTIFUL......................

jdean 01-06-2003 11:07 AM

I met Tom and saw his car at DVSFII. It is immaculate.

Tom - I saw where you had problems with TCI converter. This scares me 'cause I have the same one. Is your problem an exception, or is the quality not there on these.

John

Tom Wells 01-06-2003 11:27 AM

Hi John,

Thanks for the compliment - the credit for the fit and finish really belongs to the builder, Fred Gimbel! :D

The TCI disintegrated at around 800 miles. Don't know why. It filled the C6 with what looked like blasting sand, kind of a black, gritty substance. Both came out; the converter was replaced with an Edge Racing converter and the C6 was totally disassembled, cleaned and redone. Some fairly major parts had to be replaced. Another learning experience, I suppose.

Don't know if the converter was not up to the engine's power, but have heard others say TCI stuff can fail where other brands don't - that's purely third hand hearsay. Needless to say I'm not going to try another TCI.

The car now has another 3600 miles on it without further trans problems **)

460 FMS crate engine installed in first FFR BB (1999)

oil cooler

Shnookie,

I see you are getting close to dropping her in. My engine/trans installation went real smooth. Actually too good, it took about 10 minutes.

The only things I have mounted yet is the MSD 6al box. I mounted it between the strut towers. It fit but I had to make new mounts and drilling the frame was really tight. The body went on fine and everything cleared, even the headers and valve covers they don't look as if they will go, but they do.

My current project is mounting the alt. in the lower right side of the engine. There is room and I think it will clean up the engine bay.

You mentioned the part number on the oil cooler. I think you said it was an aeroquip cooler. If you could would you e mail the part #?

I was wondering what the serpintine pulley set up on Tom Wells car is? I really like the look, but am reluctent to pay what March wants.

Tom Wells 01-19-2003 07:57 AM

Jay,

The water pump and crank pulleys are stock Ford 460 pickup truck pieces. The PS & alt are from 5.0s.

The 460 pulleys came from Ford dealers who happened to still have them in stock - could't find any in junkyards - cost a heckuva lot less than the March setup and will probably last a lot longer :D
