Default Anyone Running Dual Carbs on 460/514

Hey guys,

Sold my SPF with 514 about 6 weeks ago and getting ready to do another new car.

Was considering a Keith Craft 514 that dynos at 725 HP and was thinking Dual Carbs. I know Blue Thunder makes a manifold for 460/514 anyone running duals?

Like to see some pics and hear your experiences!

Go for it! Dual quads on anything is cool! I would think the 514 would put those carbs to good use.

Yeah, I'm running dual carbs on a Ford Performance 460 (bored and stroked to 514). Originally the car had dual Holley 550's, but were older and modifed, with choke plates gone, vacuum secondaries, and very leaky.

Ripped those out and installed dual Edelbrock 600's, with manual choke plates and mechanical secondaries---no problema since then. Very happy with performance and "tweekability".

Don't be fooled by the valve cover emblem. I'm pretty sure that this is the 514 SFfiredog completed. Really sharp.

Just my opinion, but I believe you would be happier and make more power with Holley carbs. Besides, they look "Right".

Yep, the holleys look correct and I have much more experience with holleys............

Thanks for the kind words on the 514 I built for Joe Cloutier's SPF. That is the Blue Thunder intake. I opened up the ports to match the aluminum CJ heads and machined a half inch out of the plenum dividers. The carbs are two Holley 3310 750cfm vac secondaries with the choke horns milled off. Jetting is 68 in the primaries with the stock plates in the secondaries. Power valves are 6. 5. # 32 squirters. The old cam specs are (mech) 259/266 degrees @ .050" with .606/612 lift 114 lobe centers. The engine idles at 850 rpm with 11 to 12" of vacuum. It drives like a stocker, idleing around town without a care in the world. On the chassis dyno, after a cool down and jetting the carbs to get a 12.5 to air/fuel ratio, it made 537 hp @6200 rpm. At the rear wheels. We have since installed a bigger Flat tappet cam 262/270 deg @.050 .650/.650 lift 110 lobe centers. We are hoping for 550 to 560hp at the rear wheels. Too much horsepower is just about enough!

what kind of gears are you running? Do you have any traction problems? How much mile should i put on my engine before putting on dyno?

Joe's motor had about 1000 miles before the dyno pulls. His Cobra has the standard SPF 3.73 final rear axle ratio. The car has a Tremec TKO trans with a .68 5th gear. I custom built the throttle linkage to give a linear pull with a little longer travel. This was done to avoid the "hair trigger" throttle that can detrimental to traction in high horsepower, light-weight cars. Surprizingly enough, if you roll into the throttle the tires are able to keep up with the engine revs resulting in a small amount of wheelspin. If you stomp the throttle, expect tons of wheelspin and bouncing off the rev-limiter.

I run the blue thunder intake and dual 600 edelbrock carbs. The throttle response is way faster than the torker I had. Tons more low end power, spin the tires at 1/3 throttle. Very happy with the drivability.

These may be a used set of the price motorsport valvecovers above. They look like it to me. Mike can probably confirm. Even if you had to get them at the "buy it now" price I believe that to be about $50-$100 cheaper than new.
