Here's the latest from Lew's brother Pete:

Lew finally had his trachea taken out and he is now able to talk. He was moved ot of ICU to a general ward 3 days ago and is taking solid food. His recovery is going well with the exception of his left arm that has nerve damage and he is unable to lift it or bend his elbow. They are still doing tests and it may have to be operated on again. Right now the prognosis on recovery of that arm is unknown. It is generally felt that he will be in Sacramento until sometime next week at least and then the hope is to be transferred to Vallejo if the medical condition allows it. He would love to see visitors but because of uncertainty he recommends you call the Hospital, Kaiser Sacramento, at 916-973-5000 before making a long trip, to see if he is still there and where in the hospital. Lew thanks everyone for their prayers, support and cards. He will probably answer them when he is able in the future.
