Nathan - if you're planning on building a track-only Cobra, I'm sure a few of the manufacturers would sel you a body alone.
If you're planning on registering the car, there are WAY TOO MANY reasons why not to build your own chassis. Submitting engineer's drawings for the chassis design, including every stupid little bracket, door hinges, side intrusion, roll bar mounting points, suspension design and materials would keep you poor. Then you'd have to have an engineer do a beaming and torsional testing on the finished chassis. Then you're off to hire a racetrack to undergo braking and suspension testing.
....or - you pay a few grand more than the bare body cost and know that you're buying a fully engineered and complianced chassis without all the headaches...
