Three issues that they will fail you for out of the box:
1. Side pipes must have heat shields.
2. Car can have no exposed moving parts- which means if you have the double pusher fans mounted in front of the car and they are not covered by a grill, they will fail it.
3. Make sure you do not have wires (electric fuel pump?) running next to or tied to the fuel line.
And I assume you are aware that the engine must be equipped with all the emissions equipment on it that it came from the factory with - which means if you have a 1974 or later block, you need cats.
Other than that I would make sure everything else on the car is clean and in good working order, e.g., wipers, signals, lights, horn, mirrors, etc.
I would also call or go to the station you are going to bring the car to and ask to speak to someone there, they may give you more specific info as to what they may look for.

One more thing, get your paperwork into Trenton as soon as you can because it can take several months for the paperwork to get processed and to get the safety inspection scheduled.
