Bill - no question they have a different perspective - living in the world they do,
BUT, if you've ever been on the other end of a false accusation situation, you would understand why people develop total disrespect for the authorities. My 19 yr old son was falsely accused of being involved in a B&E a few years ago. Despite our irrefutable proof he couldn't have been there, the word of a couple of thugs prevailed over our sons explanation. "Tough luck - see 'ya in court" was the cops comment.
Yeah, tough luck plus $20k of legal fees and numerous declinings of their plea bargains. They dropped the case 2 days before going to trial - when they realized we wouldn't back down and they had to finally investigate my sons version of the events in preparation for court.
Very hard for me to teach my son respect for the authorities after an incident like that....not to mention the numerous "hassle" pullovers he has gone through.........
