There's no pressure advantage to running one or two master cylinders in a system. You can't get something for nothing. The advantage to a balance-bar system is optimal and/or adjustable proportioning.

A single master with an area equal to the sum of the areas of the two masters would be indistinguishable, ignoring loss through the proportioning valve.
